Foundation Governor (Appointed by foundation/trust)
Chair of Governors

I am the current Chair of Governors. I have been a foundation governor of Christ Church School since 1999 and have been Chair for the last 15 years. Apart from responsibilities as Chair I have ex officio membership to all the governor sub committees with particular involvement in Finance and Asset Management (Vice Chair), Personnel and Performance Management and Safeguarding. My curricular and pupil voice interests are in Maths and the School Council. My work background prior to retirement 3 years ago is Local Government and in particular Environmental Health. 33 years working for Kingston Council provided a detailed insight into how the relationship between School, Council and Government functions. My daughter and son attended Christ Church School during the 1980’s during which time I served on the PSA so my relationship with the school and community is long standing.

I have 3 children, who all went to Christ Church School, to Tiffin Girls and Sutton Grammar. I now have 3 grandchildren. I have been a Governor for several years; it is something that I enjoy doing. I have been Vicar of Christ Church since 2008 and as such have been involved as a governor at Christ Church School since then. I am regularly involved with Collective Worship at school and helping with RE classes, and it is also exciting to welcome pupils to our Church for services or special occasions. As Vicar, my hope is that we can do all we can to build on the strong links between the church and school so that while children are at Christ Church they get every opportunity to discover for themselves the love of Jesus and to understand what it means to walk with God throughout their lives.

I have been a governor at Christ Church School since 2006. I've lived in Berrylands all my life and went to local schools. I have three grown up children all of whom attended Christ Church School where they were very happy & thrived so this is one of the reasons I became enthusiastic about becoming a governor to give back to the school. I'm retired after working for the NHS for 17 years as a Primary Care Contracts Manager and now, I am involved with all the various committees where I endeavour to use my personnel and administration experience. My particular subject interest is in modern languages especially French. I am a committed Christian and a member of the Emmanuel Church family where I lead some services, am a member of the Parochial Church Council and am on the teams for both the church's Toddler group, and 11-14yrs youth group.

Parent Governor (Appointed by GB/board due to no election candidates)

I was elected parent governor in November 2014. I have a son, Tommy, in year 1 Dragonflies, and have recently had a baby, another son, Jamie. We live just a short walking distance from the school. I have been a teacher in primary education for 16 years. My specialist subject is English, but I also have an interest in MFL, music and drama. I have led the school choir for many years and also written and directed whole school productions. As part of a Surrey scheme, I have worked as a consultant in other nearby schools that require improvement, sharing my experience and knowledge. In the short time since I became a governor at Christ Church Primary, I have been to full governing body meetings, plus the standards and curriculum committee meeting. I have also attended training locally for parent governors and with the diocese for governors in church schools. I enjoy visiting the school, seeing children and staff at work, and supporting with events such as the Christmas fair.

I’ve been a school governor for 18 months. I have two daughters at Christ Church School in currently years one and five. I came to be a governor through Christ Church (church) and I believe I am classified as a Diocesan governor (check). I am a freelance journalist who works mainly from home, which also makes me a househusband. I write for the most part about finance having worked for the Financial Times for 14 years. I also write about rowing and reported on the Olympic Games at Eton Dorney in 2012. I was educated at an all-male Grammar School in Clapham, which later became a college of further education and then Lincoln College, Oxford where i took up rowing and represented the university at athletics, and managed to get a degree! I have enjoyed the past 18 months but it has been a steep, and not always smooth, learning curve. When asked why I am a governor I reply along the lines of: I want to give something back to the school and support the staff who work so hard.

I joined Christ Church School as a foundation Governor in 2007. As a qualified teacher who had moved out of the profession I felt that I wanted to be involved in my son’s education and education as a whole. In 2000 my wife and I moved to the UK from South Africa. When our son, Nicholas, started school I felt that one way I could give back to the community was to become a governor. My knowledge of education would allow me to effectively contribute to the school and help deliver an environment for high quality education. My family and I have been living in the Surbiton / Tolworth area for the past 19 years. We have been members of Christ Church for the past 16 years and love the sense of community we feel as members of the parish and past members of the school community. I am fully committed to providing a high quality education. I take my responsibility as a Governor very seriously and believe it is our duty to provide the best foundation we can for our children so that they have the ability to grasp all opportunities life will put in front of them.

Headteacher

I have been Head teacher at Christ Church School since September 2002. During this time, I have seen the school grow from one form to two form entry and then the addition of four additional classes to support the Local Authority’s need for school places in this area.

At Christ Church there are wonderful children, dedicated staff, supportive parents and a great community to work within. I am enormously proud of all our pupils and the contribution each one of them brings to make school life special. Christian values and ethos are at the heart of the school. Our aim is to provide children with a high- quality education where purposeful learning, stimulus and a full partnership between teachers and parents encourage each child to reach his/her maximum potential.

During my time in Kingston I have been involved in many education committees and groups. Currently I am a Local Leader of Education and act as a mentor to new Head teachers, work in a consultancy role with other schools outside the Local Authority and am a member of Kingston’s School’s Forum. The Schools Forum consults on the local authority’s school funding formula and specified issues relating to the schools' budget, such as proposals to meet Special Educational Needs, transport costs, or termination of employment costs from this budget.

Although I have been teaching a long time I remain passionate about education and every day feel encouraged by the learning enthusiasm of the children and the dedication of the all the staff.

Parent Governor (Appointed by GB/board due to no election candidates)

I was elected Parent Governor in September 2015. I currently have a son at Christ Church - Jonty in 4P - and my eldest son left year 6 in 2016 (having had a wonderful time at school). I have been an active member of school life for the past 6 years as I have been a member of the PSA and also a class rep.

Professionally, I have been working in PR and communications for around 15 years and currently manage communications at senior level for a global recruiting business.

I wanted to be a Parent Governor as I wanted to work with the school to ensure that it provides our children with the best learning environment to allow them to achieve their full potential, both academically and also emotionally.

I was born and raised in Sydney, Australia and now live a short walk from school in Berrylands.

I’ve been a member of Christ Church (church) for over 20 years, 10 of those years I was chairman of the Fabric committee that looked after the Church building and gardens. Following my retirement in 2010 after a project management career in BT and TfL I volunteered to be a foundation governor at Christ Church School. Soon after joining the team I was nominated as chair of the Premises committee where I still belong although it is now renamed the Finance and Asset Management Committee (Vice Chair). My busy retirement time is also used as a musician, committee member, and treasurer in the Central Band of the Royal British Legion.
